Medieval, vintage and antique stylings are very on-trend at the moment and add a touch of sophistication to any living space.
The Bayeux Tapestry is both a historical document, detailing the story surrounding the Battle of Hastings and the struggle for the English throne after Alfred the Great's death, as well as being an impressive piece of medieval art.
Religions of the Middles Ages were also sources of some beautiful art, shown by this beautiful geometric design and through stained glass windows, which depicted various events and characters of religious significance.

Medieval myths and legends are also a great source of art. This medieval poem about a unicorn and the artistic depiction that accompanies it, helps us to understand how unicorns are depicted today.

Arthurian myths formed the basis of a great amount of both literature and art. This picture highlights one of those stories - 'The Lady of Shalott' as told many centuries later by Alfred Lord Tennyson from his 'Idylls of the King', a book of poetry based around medieval myth. The picture itself is a superb example of pre-Raphaelite art - John William Waterhouse 1888.

At Literary Lodge, there are examples of the original text of 'The Canterbury Tales', from the Prologue, 'The Wife of Bath' and 'The Knight's Tale'.
You will also find illuminated manuscripts, excerpts from 'Beowulf' and more is coming soon.
